Dear Lucille,I just went through the most contemptible experience that no words can do it justice. Last night Tom came back grumpy, because he was the only one who turned up for work yesterday. I was surprised, because the day before I had mentioned to Thomas that he should take some vacation days, so that I could go to the police and check some of the premises Shayne was supposed to be using. I thought maybe today, he would take a day off and that I would try to catch Shayne at the Theatercompagnie, which never looks open during the day. But no. Thomas was heading off to work again today. I told him again I needed to go out and that I can't take a lot of luggage with me to the police station. Thomas cursed me out and said I was trying to act like "Mrs. Marple, the fictional old-woman detective." I told thomas, "This is not about a detective mystery, this is about your daughter." I can't remember all the hurtful, unkind things Thomas said before he tromped out the door. Afterwards, I went over my collection of facts I wanted to turn in to the police, such as old addresses of Shayne, places of work, photos, any other items that seemed important. I found that I had a number errors, so they have been corrected this morning. Then I discovered a form I had been filling out for Shayne after I saw her last. It was an application from one of the brocures you sent about research or short-jobs in the US. I had started filling out an application for Shayne and that date was September 12. Thus, I haven't seen her in person since around that time. I made the photo album and her play but she received them. I called the university and got some clarity on her situation but never come in contact with her again (for more than 2 minutes on the phone). I remember that she came here for about 5 minutes to pick a form about health insurance, required now at a high premium each month. Private insurance companies have been demolished and only state insurance goes on. The new policy probably has questions about donor organs, etc. She looked up to me and said, "And you will have to fill this out, too, Rada." Then Thomas came home with a lot literature about it that he wanted me to read. But then later, he said he had health insurance for both him and Shayne and acted as if he wanted to know whether Shayne wanted him to continue paying for health insurance for her, if she had another policy now. That is the last time I saw her. Around September 10. I need to go today to the police but I probably won't go until Saturday.
