Dear Lucille,I have to admit I feel depressed about my circumstances and my inability to reach Shayne by telephone and other matters (which I don't want to bring up) but I am making a last-ditch effort to submit a proposal for a program, which closes in September. I don't think I'm crazy but I believe the Pope who went to Koln Germany is now looking much different from what he used to look. He doesn't look the same to me. On the other hand, Shayne and I were in Koln in 1991 under similar type conditions as the Pope was, I mean crowds of people all following us around and portions of the shopping center/train station roped off and trains not running to schedule (a priest who went to Koln from Holland this week commented on TV yesterday that the trains were way off schedule). It was there that we encountered a swordsman/ headman. After a grueling sleepless night, a train eventually pulled into the station and we went back to Amsterdam. During that horrendous trip (an attempt to return to the US or anywhere that would take us), I called you from a phone booth in Dusseldorf. Do you remember?I would like to hear everything you want to tell me and I look forward to receiving the pictures. Was it an interesting sermon about Jacob? I love the political application of Bible tales. For instance, in some ways, the story of Samson reminds of the situation of the Jewish nation. They were taken prisoner in World War II but eventually gained their own country and their strength back. Enough perhaps to bring down the whole world order.
